Venus opposition Mars: The shift between pleasing and striving

4 min read

When you are polite, you can’t tell what you really want, but when you really want it, it becomes a tough stance: Venusopposition Mars puts Venus’s pleasure and Mars’s struggle at opposite ends of 180 degrees, taking turns to take the throne.

Indicative chart: Venus and Mars are in position across the diameter of the chart. The aspect line runs across the center of the chart, pointing out the axis of mutual alignment between pleasing and striving for each other.Schematic, not a real chart

The core of Venus opposition Mars: one sentence version

opposition is the axis in the hard aspect: the tonality you like and the strength you strive for often come from two sets of logic in opposite directions. You probably stay on the Venus side for a long time to manage relationships and good atmosphere, and when you are awakened by the Mars side, you often say more than you originally intended - because behind that sentence is a whole paragraph of unspoken needs. The lesson is not to choose sides, but to let both ends take over in advance.

What do the two planets want?

What Venus wants is good feelings in the relationship: feeding, cooperation, and making each other comfortable. What Mars wants is to take back the initiative: demand what needs to be asked, and block what needs to be blocked. 180 degrees arrange the two things into two shifts with a clear rhythm - you first do enough to please, and when it reaches a certain critical point, Mars will settle it all at once; and the stiffness of Mars when he comes out will in turn make you rush to compensate with the Venus side. Once you see this cycle clearly, there will be extra options for shifts.

The feeling of hard aspect: three specific scenes

  1. You took care of everyone’s preferences at the party, and a small incident before the party made you face it on the spot. The point was so low that you even surprised yourself.
  2. For the person you like, you approach him first, but after the relationship is established, your demands are urgent and heavy, like two rhythms.
  3. When negotiating conditions, your position jumps directly between “everything is fine” and “why”, leaving no negotiable scale in the middle.

Immature version and mature version

Immature positions use a pendulum to deal with this axis: press one end, let the other end explode, compensate after the explosion, make up and then press again. The cycle becomes larger and larger, and both ends are consumed. The mature version advances the handover: the Venus side no longer accumulates - what you want and feel uncomfortable can be said immediately; the Mars side therefore does not need to use conflict to speak for itself, and acts with Venus’ original intention, firmly and decently. The two ends went from frightening each other to division of labor.

Orb and priority: 180 degrees, natal practice within 7 degrees

natal’s oppositionorb captures 7 degrees. This axis divides the entire disk into two halves facing each other. The more precise the degree, the more clearly the alternation of pleasing and striving can be arranged into a clear cycle. In terms of sorting, it and square belong to the backbone of the hard aspect; when Venus and Mars each have main aspects, read the group with the tightest degree first, and then come back to see how this axis sets the rhythm for the entire disk.
